I really wish the announcers for the Twins/Yankees game would stop sucking Derek Jeter's dick. And talking like 'taking more than one hit to drive in a run' is a bad thing. The game is not just about home runs, for fuck's sake...
And gratuitous icon post. This was SUPPOSED to be SRS ICON but it wouldn't happen. Ahwell. I guess technically this is just the same style recolored with a new banner, but I like how it came out, even if it's not quite as easy to read as the very dark background...
Have done NOTHING otherwise today. Wtf, self? Will probably do more nothing shortly.

You know how sometimes you're listening to a song you really like, and you're surprised by how little you know the lyrics? Like, you realize you only really know the chorus well. (I do this a lot, anyway.)
For once I noticed the opposite thing XD I apparently know the lyrics to an awful lot of Jimmy Eat World songs~

Okay, my love for Corran Horn is pretty well known. But it's also no secret that he's a pretty big Mary Sue. He is, after all, a Jedi fighter pilot; if a particularly likeable one. He's also a former cop. He has a little too much awesome, even if it was nice to read about someone other than Luke Skywalker for a change.
He even had those unusual eyes Mary Sues are known for --- bright green eyes on this Corellian.
Well...
Here's a pic of author Michael Stackpole..
I'm not sure if that makes it better or worse! XDDD

Comment to this entry and I'll pick three of your fandoms. You must then update your journal and answer the following questions:
01: What got you into this fandom in the first place?
02: Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
03: Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.?
04: Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
05: Do you think that more people should get into this fandom?

So I got back from my trip today! Overall, I had a good time. It was great seeing Sarah again after all these years. She has a cute little apartment! It's really nice. Mostly we just hung out and caught up... We walked to this restaurant she wanted to go to but it was closed, so we had Chinese food and then wandered around Target.
Well...I walked out with the Star Wars prequel trilogy box set and two sets of Star Wars toys packed with issues of Star Wars: Republic. One toy I bought because it had the Quinlan Vos figure in it, and the other because it had Republic #69 (where Obi-Wan comes to Quinlan's rescue.) Whee! Target is so bad.
( Star Trek! )
Katie came down on Sunday and we all hung out until pretty late and watched some Star Wars outtakes. We had tried to go to several good local restaurants that were all closed. I was amazed at how easy it is to get around in Sarasota, how little traffic there was even at "peak" times.
I went to Sarah's church with her and her mom and it was....weird. I dunno, very disorderly to me compared to my church and it went on for almost two hours...Episcopalian, apparently there was talk of the church leaving or not leaving the diocese, the "sermon" was more like a rant. I thought I understood why but Sarah's mom took it upon herself to discuss it with me later and we kinda got into an argument.
( I believe God loves gays, too. + Why this seems to bother people. )
Whew, that was long and serious.
More serious: My car is still making a weird noise, and I wanted to take it in this weekend, but the place is near my dad's and he was remarkably unsympathetic. Ever since he and his girlfriend got back together he's been spending every speck of his time with her...I can understand, but all I was asking was maybe a ride back to his apartment while they work on it. He's been staying at her place anyway...Well, whatever. I can just sit in the lobby of the dealership for hours.
I wish he understood what it's like to not have anyone you can depend on.
*sigh* I'm not that emo today, really. I have been kind of festering about the car thing, though! That plus + cramps = grumpy me this weekend. Hopefully this week will turn out a bit more cheerfully.

I don't suppose any of you Anakin and Obi-Wan fans on my flist are about and feel like getting on aim? >_> Cause I totally just hit the mother lode of Ani/Obi Japanese fanart sites and I want to picspam someone. My boyfriend is not amused
I finished my ficlets for the drabble meme! Calling them "drabbles" seemed disingenuous, none of them are that short. >_>; But I haven't had the desire to write for so long, I couldn't bear to cut them down to size. So, without further ado~

I FINISHED
Fuck yeah. Finished my piece for the ffxi fanart contest just now. That's uh, 1:45 am. I mailed it off.
The rushed part is kinda half assed and crappy but it's not too awful and it turned out really cute. I wish I could've spent as long on the people as I did in the beginning on the scene!
I'll put it up here after they post winners regardless of whether I win anything \m/
Tired now. Chi go sleep.

The more I listen to these speakers, the worse they sound. :/
I reckon I'll need to return them and buy something a little nicer, that isn't so buzzy.

I responded to
lassarina 's meme to get a drabble...so here is my part!
The first TEN people to comment in this post get to request a drabble of any pairing/character of their choosing from me. In return, they have to post this in their journal, regardless of their ability level. If you absolutely can't write, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to offer drawings or icons or something instead.

Was reading a random article that talked about use of "bloom" in video game graphics, and since I only had a vague idea of what that actually was, I looked it up.
It's kind of interesting how we make such an effort to reproduce these sorts of camera effects. We expect to see them, because we see these kinds of elements so often in films. Things like bloom, and lens flare, and limited depth of field... But these are artistic conceits, or mechanical constraints (depending on how you look at these things!) ---- They are an artifact of the camera itself. They aren't present in the real world as we perceive it with our eyes.
I think we attempt to recreate these things in games because they make them seem more "real" to us; we're used to seeing the world through the lens of a camera. But a camera is NOT a true reflection of the world around us, it cannot reproduce the world exactly as we perceive it with the human eye. Cameras lie, even when the photographer is not intentionally manipulating the image. I don't know, I think it's really fascinating that we "need" to replicate the camera's viewpoint on the world in other media...Something about the "truth" of perception...is standardized or made real by the physical constraints of a camera. And we need that...non-relative truth...the belief that a camera cannot lie...But it's an illusion, because a camera can and does misrepresent the world.
I could write a whole paper about this topic. ...I have the vague feeling that I already have, somewhere...
...When I looked up "bloom" I found the following sentence in the explanation:
"In HDR images, the effect can be re-produced by convolving the image with a windowed kernel of an Airy disc...before converting the image to fixed-range pixels. "
What?

Sigh. This is because I looked up The Force Unleashed, thinking perhaps it had come out on PC by now, but APPARENTLY, they have NO PLANS to release it on PC. Fuck you, LucasArts, that game was MADE for a high-end gaming rig, don't give me that bullshit about your precious physics engine being too hardc0r for most PCs. I do not believe it. And yeah, I know there's a Wii version, but it doesn't have Euphoria (the engine that makes stormtroopers clutch each other in fear and run away from your august personage like terrified rats) and that just won't fly. Plus it'd be a shame to play such a pretty game on the ass-graphics of the Wii. (Sorry Wii, you know I love you!)
So no Force Unleashed for me. Playing the games I have, yup.
...I am so supposed to be painting, now.

All right.
Men kissing! Did I get your attention? Who has pics of men kissing!? It's for an art project, I swear. Your pics, please give me them.
Especially if you have one of those where someone's backed up against a wall getting their face kissed off. Yes.
Going to try some poses in Daz 3D but I don't have too much hope.
In other news, I want to draw...something, but I don't feel much like working on that, or on my ffxi pic at the moment. Bummer.
Maybe I should go to bed early. I was so tired yesterday I thought I was coming down with something. I feel a little better today, but damn, I need to get rested this weekend.
